Italy-based ceramic tile manufacturer—Fiandre Group, has launched its ACTIVE Clean Air & Antibacterial Ceramic products. The range will be marketed by Somany Ceramics in India.
The self-cleaning tiles, make use of 'Active' technology (ACTIVE Clean Air & Antibacterial Ceramic). The tiles are stable, and preserve their original hardness and resistance over time, as is typical of stoneware materials. Moreover, the tiles gain additional surface properties due to the presence of titanium dioxide in the outermost layer, a characteristic that classifies them as photocatalytic materials. Photocatalysis is a type of chemical reaction that occurs due to the simultaneous presence of a semiconductor (titanium dioxide in this case), and light and chemical reagents, which in the case of ACTIVE are oxygen, air humidity and pollutant molecules.
ACTIVE tiles are capable of reacting with the most common air pollutant molecules, and hence provide strong antibacterial properties. Internationally-normed tests have been performed, confirming the distinctiveness of Active in providing antibacterial properties to the material; these properties are guaranteed by the presence of titanium dioxide.
Active is a technology that can be adapted to a wide range of materials and is being manufactured by IRIS Ceramiche, FMG and GranitiFiandre Group. Th adaptibility makes it especially suited to exterior walls.
Somany Ceramics has inked a manufacturing and distribution agreement with IRIS Ceramiche and FMG (Fiorano Modenese-MO) of GranitiFiandre Group (Castellarano-RE) for the ACTIVE Clean Air & Antibacterial Ceramic products in India.
