The Gujarat government had established the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) in February 1, 1978, with the prime objective to carry out sustained planned development of those areas, which do not fall under the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. AUDA aims at developing the infrastructure at the outskirts of Ahmedabad in a planned manner. It provides the residents of those areas the access to basic infrastructure facilities and services such as roads, water supply and sewerage systems, among others.
To achieve this successfully, the authority carries out several functions. The two major functions of AUDA are as follows:
The officeof AUDA is situated at Usmanpura in Ahmedabad. The authority has a well-defined constitution and is led by the chairman, Gauri Kumar. However, at present, the scope of AUDA has become constricted due to the merger of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation with the 18 gram panchayats of the Ahmedabad district.
