Hyundai to Construct Alumina Plants in Saudi Arabia

Hyundai Engineering & Construction—the construction and EPC arm of Hyundai Corp.— has won a $1.52 bn order to construct an alumina refinery in Saudi Arabia. The coordinates of the plant would be, Ras Al Khair, 90 km northwest of Jubail Port a major manufacturing hub in the kingdom. Processed from the ore aluminum oxide, Alumina finds a wide range of applications across industries.

The order was put up by the Saudi state-run mining outfit Maaden and Alcoa—the US aluminum giant. Expected to give over 180,000 tons of alumina in output annually.

The project is a turnkey order which puts Hyundai E&C in charge of the whole process including design, procurement, construction and test runs.

The Korean company has an erstwhile total of 183 orders worth $15 bn from Saudi Arabia till date.
